Content Pages & Footer

Beyond your catalog, your storefront needs the pages every store has, such as policies, about and contact, plus a footer that ties them together. Almost all of it comes from BigCommerce.

Content pages

Your BigCommerce web pages are published as storefront content pages, with their own SEO fields. This is how you publish anything that isn't a product or a category.

BigCommerce page typeOn your storefront
Normal pageA content page
Contact form pageA content page with a working contact form
Raw HTML pageA content page rendering your markup

Create them in the BigCommerce admin under Storefront → Web Pages. They appear on your storefront and in your footer links.

Blog posts aren't included

BigCommerce blog posts are not rendered by your storefront. If you need a blog, talk to us about the options, including pointing a subdomain at a dedicated blogging platform.

At minimum, most stores publish: privacy policy, terms and conditions, returns and refunds, shipping information, about us, and contact.

Contact form

A BigCommerce contact form page works on your storefront, with submissions delivered by BigCommerce to the address configured there. Send yourself a test submission before launch.

The footer is assembled automatically:

ElementSource

Category linksYour BigCommerce category tree
Brand linksYour BigCommerce brands, controlled by footerBrands
Page linksYour BigCommerce web pages
Social iconsYour BigCommerce social media settings, matched to the right platform automatically
TaglineBuilt into your storefront. Ask us to change it

Publishing a new web page in BigCommerce adds it to the footer. There's no separate footer menu to maintain.

Maintenance mode

Setting your BigCommerce store to temporarily closed puts your storefront into maintenance mode, showing the message you entered in BigCommerce rather than an error. That makes it a reasonable way to cover planned catalog work.

tip

Check the wording of your BigCommerce "closed" message before you need it, since your shoppers will read it verbatim.

Home page content

Home page content is part of your build

Your home page hero, banners and featured or recommended product selections are built into your storefront. They are not editable from BigCommerce or from store settings, and there's no page builder for them today.

Changing them is a request to us, and a routine one. See Advanced Customizations. Merchant-editable home page content is on our roadmap; if it matters to your launch plans, tell us so we can factor it in.

What this does and doesn't affect:

Needs usThe hero image and copy, promotional banners, which specific products or categories are featured, the arrangement of home page sections
Follows your catalog automaticallyThe imagery, names, prices and availability of whatever products appear in those sections

So a featured product's price change appears by itself; changing which product is featured is a request.

If you know your home page will need seasonal campaign changes, tell us during onboarding. There are ways to structure your build that make those changes cheaper, and it's much easier to plan for at the start.
