Advanced Customizations

Beyond the settings and branding you control yourself, we build customer-specific functionality into your storefront. This page covers what that includes and how to ask for it.

What we can build

Home page and marketing content. Hero banners, promotional blocks, curated product carousels, seasonal campaign layouts and editorial sections.

Custom widgets and components. Anything you need on a page that isn't there today. Size guides and product configurators are the two we're asked for most often, but the category is open: store-specific badges, comparison tables, interactive content.

Page layouts and templates. Restructured product detail pages, bespoke category landing pages, campaign or brand pages with their own layout, and additional pages that don't map to a BigCommerce page type.

Deeper theming. Bespoke themes, custom fonts, and component-level styling beyond what the palette settings reach. This is also where design work to match an existing brand system closely belongs.

Custom data integrations. Loyalty programs, third-party review platforms, ERP and inventory systems, tax and shipping calculators, subscription services, personalization and recommendation engines, live chat and support tooling.

Bespoke shopper flows. Registration and onboarding variations, quote requests, trade or wholesale account handling, and made-to-order journeys.

Commerce capabilities your storefront doesn't have today. Evolve Storefront runs on more than one commerce platform, and a good deal of what those other platforms support has already been built once. If there's a shopper capability your store depends on, describe it and we'll tell you what bringing it to BigCommerce involves.

Another commerce platform. If part of your business runs on something other than BigCommerce, the storefront's data layer is designed to be extended to additional backends.

Additional languages

Your storefront ships in US English. Adding a language is scoped work rather than a setting: translations have to be completed and reviewed, and page URLs are localized too, so it affects your URL structure and needs planning alongside SEO. See Wording and labels for changes to existing English copy, which is much lighter work.

How it works

  1. You describe the outcome you want rather than the implementation. What should a shopper be able to do, and where?
  2. We scope it and come back with an approach, an estimate and a timeline. If there's a simpler way to get most of the value, we'll say so.
  3. We build it into your storefront.
  4. You review it before it goes live.
  5. It ships with a release of your storefront.

Your customizations are held separately from the shared storefront code and are carried forward when your storefront is upgraded, so you can take new platform releases and keep your bespoke work.

Commercial terms

Advanced customization is a scoped engagement rather than a self-service feature. Timelines and commercial terms are agreed case by case, separately from your subscription.

What to include in a request

The more of this you can provide, the faster we can scope it:

  • The outcome — what you want a shopper to be able to do, and why.
  • Where it appears — which page or step in the journey.
  • Visual references — mockups, a design file, or a link to a site doing something similar.
  • Data it depends on — which BigCommerce fields, or which third-party system. API documentation if there is one.
  • Any date you're working to — a campaign, a launch, a trade show.
  • What "good enough" looks like — the smallest version you'd be happy with. It often ships much sooner.
