What You Can Customize

A single table for the question that comes up most: can I change this, and who does it?

The pattern behind that table is worth holding onto. Anything about what you sell, at what price, in which category, lives in the BigCommerce admin, and your storefront reflects it. Feature toggles, palette and analytics are store settings you control directly, and they take effect without a redeploy or a support ticket. Anything that changes the storefront's code, such as new components, layout changes, fonts and bespoke themes, is built into your storefront by us and goes out with a release.

Wording and labels

Every piece of text on your storefront can be changed: button labels, headings, validation messages, empty-state copy, transactional email wording. It's a small, low-risk change for us because your wording is applied as an override layer rather than an edit to shared code, so it survives upgrades.

Send support a list of the current text and what you want instead, with a screenshot or page URL for context. Changes go out with your next release.

Additional languages work the same way, one layer deeper. Your storefront ships in US English; other languages are a scoped piece of work rather than a setting, because each one needs its translations completed and reviewed. Note that page URLs are localized too, so adding a language affects your URL structure and needs planning alongside SEO.

Home page content

This one surprises people, so it's worth stating plainly. Your home page hero, banners and featured or recommended product selections are part of your storefront build rather than content you can edit. There's no page builder for them today.

Changing them is a request to us, and a routine one. See Advanced Customizations. Merchant-editable home page content is on our roadmap; if it matters to your launch plans, tell us so we can factor it in.

Everything else on the home page follows your BigCommerce catalog as usual, including the products shown in category and product carousels along with their imagery and pricing.
